WSTA e-Newsletter Rolls-Out with Great Acceptance –
Hope you like our New WSTA e-newsletter sent out every Monday morning. It’s a nice timely touch since we have gone to publishing our magazine once every 2 months.
Discussions and Actual Progress Continues with DIR –
Incidentally, if you opened your WSTA newsletter email on August 15, you would have read this: “WSTA is working with DIR to help owner-operators report electronic certified payroll records affecting the transportation industry. WSTA is able to provide valuable feedback that will create an electronic certified payroll reporting mechanism that will make sense to owner-operators. In addition, WSTA is working to provide more meaningful Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) that will clear up confusion when projects trigger Public Works (PW) requirements, which projects are exempt from PW requirements and to provide better reporting tools for owner-operators. For owner-operator (non-employees) reporting certified payment electronically, the DIR is working on a new form/standard and there remains much confusion as to how and what to report. We hope to have this resolved with the DIR within 30 days.” We are now working on a list of trucking Public Workers Q&A’s that we plan to submit to the DIR. We will also be providing a variety of suggested changes to the DIR’s Registration website and hopefully a realistic wage reporting form for owner-operators.
WSTA Continues to Refine Its Insurance Programs –
In our ongoing effort to develop better alternatives for members, we have vetted a number of potential insurance vendors to enhance our association offerings.
Most recently, as a result of potential underwriting changes by SCIF, the WSTA and EPIC have negotiated a seven percent discount for WSTA members with Peoplease. As the only trucking specific PEO, Peoplease has the expertise to help you comply with ever changing HR regulations and rein in excessive comp costs. There are no subhaul audits or deposits. Additional services include claims advocacy, loss control/safety support and HR services. As the exclusive distributor for Peoplease to association members, we will have a revenue share agreement that gives the association a small percentage of EPIC’s commissions.
We maintain strong relationships with our traditional workers compensation markets through EPIC as well. We’ve been able to save members money and improve their service experience. However, many have minimum premium standards. We’ll continue to work on alternatives for employers with five or fewer employees. We’ve had ongoing dialogue with the State Fund. We feel we are in a strong negotiating position and can assist members with unexpected audit findings. SCIF will continue to write comp policies for the smaller members, we are still in negotiations with them concerning independent contractor owner-operators as was discussed previously.
Health, Dental & Vision Options with Big Discounts Through BXA –
After multiple meetings with Benefits Exchange Alliance (BXA), we’re confident that we’ve found a partner that can bring unique solutions to businesses as well as individuals and families relating to Heath, Dental and Vision Insurance. Some of the outcomes for members include:
• Lower renewal rates for our clients health care plans
• Comprehensive compliance services with no incremental expense
• Integrated payroll and benefits administration services at well below market fees
• Better use of health care plans and services by our client’s engaged workforce
• Unique carrier funding options for comprehensive wellness programs
• BXA has agreed to revenue return a large percentage of their broker commissions, most will go back to members and a small percentage to the association.
On-line Quotes Equals Quick Quotes and Discounts –
We Now Offer New Solutions for Small Businesses. Members with five or fewer employees/six or fewer trucks can access multiple quotes through the WSTA website under insurance programs “EPIC.” The link will connect members to a website where they can complete an application for any line of coverage and receive multiple quotes in minutes once the application is complete.
There are more than two dozen carriers available, and any line of coverage can be quoted so businesses can find a policy that fits their needs. There is also a helpful guide to getting started, as well as toll-free telephone support available during normal business hours.
Although still in negotiations, we expect a small commission revenue share from InsureZone. It’s important that members look at the WSTA Insurance site to access all these programs.
