The WSTA has begun shopping around a letter to interested stakeholders requesting CHP support to expand California’s short-haul HOS rule to a federally allowable 150 air miles. This is directly linked to CHP moving forward with an “intrastate” ELD mandate as required under federal law earlier than previously reported. Federal law does allow a state to have a 150 air-mile exemption which, if adopted by California, would significantly reduce the number of motor carriers and drivers in the state impacted by an ELD mandate. We have an excellent safety based argument in making this request as the state already has one of the best CMV safety records of all states. We are already adding associations to the letter but would also like to include companies. Fill out the form below if you would like to sign-on to support the letter.
