DIFFICULTY CREATING CLEARINGHOUSE ACCOUNT
As of January 2, 2020, many members are having trouble registering with the Clearinghouse and virtually all issues are related to the lack of knowledge about having a FMCSA Portal Account. FMCSA has published step-by-step instructions with pictures to help you complete registration without entering Portal Account information (see below). HINT: When prompted in Step #13 to enter a US DOT number say “NO” otherwise you will once again be redirected to FMCSA’s Portal account page.
On January 3, 2020, FMCSA acknowledged they are having IT issues with the FMCSA portal and members should follow the instructions below to complete Clearinghouse registration. NOTE: Having a Clearinghouse account open by January 6th is most critical for employers hiring drivers. A query must be run on potential new hires before they can begin operating in a safety sensitive function (driving). If you are not hiring drivers you are NOT in violation if you don’t have an open Clearinghouse account on January 6, 2020.
